OUR mission

For years, Fondazione Roma has primarily, though not exclusively, adopted this operational model, with the aim of positioning itself as a kind of “catalyst” for civil society: a promoter and driver of good practices and initiatives capable of inspiring further emulative actions, thereby contributing to the construction of a more cohesive, resilient, and inclusive society. The Foundation presents itself and seeks to be perceived as a reliable and accessible local resource, open in a spirit of trust to public and private actors, both profit and non-profit, who share the same willingness and vision.

Among the Foundation’s most significant and socially impactful projects are: the Hospice for vulnerable patients, including those with ALS and Alzheimer’s disease, managed by the instrumental body Fondazione Sanità e Ricerca a healthcare facility, dedicated to the care of patients with limited life expectancy as well as those suffering from Alzheimer’s and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; the Villaggio Fondazione Roma, reserved for patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and managed by the instrumental body Fondazione Roma – Salus; the IRCCS Fondazione G.B. Bietti for Study and Research in Ophthalmology Onlus; initiatives implemented through public-private partnerships, successfully piloted in collaboration with Rome Capitale; projects aimed

at promoting economic development, primarily in the Foundation’s traditional operational territory, while not excluding the more disadvantaged areas of the country; the creation of a truly multifunctional district combining care and scientific research on Alzheimer’s disease and related neurological conditions; the management of the Museo del Corso – Polo museale, including Palazzo Sciarra Colonna and Palazzo Cipolla, with exhibitions of significant cultural value and a social mission promoting inclusion and equal access to art; the FondAzioneRoma Symposium series, representing an important window onto civil society on topics of wide interest, from which numerous operational proposals have emerged shared, actively participated in, measurable, and often innovative and unexpected; the strong collaboration with Church-affiliated organizations and institutions, both nationally and internationally, in the fields of volunteering and addressing the basic needs of the less fortunate; university Master’s programs.

ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION

Fondazione Roma is the largest Italian former banking foundation of associative origin. With uninterrupted historical continuity, it traces its roots to the Monte di Pietà di Roma, established in 1539 to combat usury, and to the Cassa di Risparmio di Roma, which incorporated it in 1937.

Following the separation of banking and philanthropic activities, the Foundation evolved into a private-law foundation, entrusted with promoting and organizing social freedoms.

FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

«The 2025 financial statements confirm the soundness of the path we have taken. In a complex international environment, we have successfully preserved and grown the Foundation’s assets while further strengthening our capacity to act. For us, financial growth is a means, not an end: it is what allows us to reach an ever-growing number of people, identify needs that often go overlooked, and develop innovative solutions together with our partners. The paradigm shift we set in motion has now become a well-established strategic approach — one that focuses on communities in need regardless of geographical boundaries, with the ambition of generating a tangible, lasting, and measurable impact. The Foundation also puts this approach forward as an operational model for other banking foundations, particularly the larger ones, enabling them to respond effectively to both today’s and tomorrow’s evolving challenges.»
